The Big Pilot’s Watch not only embodies IWC Schaffhausen’s extensive expertise in engineering professional precision instruments for the cockpit. Thanks to its utilitarian, functional design and numerous special editions, it has also achieved the status of a cultural icon whose appeal extends far beyond the watchmaking industry. The Big Pilot’s Watch IWC Racing Works, limited to 500 pieces, pays tribute to IWC’s passion for motorsport. It features a case of grade 5 titanium – a robust and lightweight material that is also used for high-performance engine components. A matte blue dial with subdued numerals and hands and a matching blue calfskin strap complement the technical grey look of the 46.2-millimetre case. The timepiece is powered by the IWC-manufactured 52110 calibre, a movement that has been engineered with a strict focus on performance, reliability, and durability. The bi-directional Pellaton winding system builds up a power reserve of seven days in two barrels. Components that are subject to high stress are manufactured from virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. A soft-iron inner case effectively shields the movement from the effects of magnetic fields. The case back features engravings of the IWC Racing Works logo and the individual limitation number.
